Minister of Small Development Enterprise and Minister of Tourism meet to discuss SME development in tourism

Minister Tokozile Xasa and Minister Lindiwe Zulu commit to advancing SMEs and the tourism sector.

Minister of Tourism, Tokozile Xasa, and Minister of Small Business Development, Lindiwe Zulu, met to discuss how they will work together to advance the tourism sector and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within the greater mandate of the NDP.

Both ministers agreed on the importance of collaboration between the two ministries, saying that tourism was overarching and cut across many sectors. It was important to work together with the various government departments to “to grow and transform our sector and economy,” said Xasa.

Minister Zulu, echoed the sentiment in her commitment to working with tourism and advancing small enterprises.

“The critical focus of the current government is the eradication of poverty, unemployment and inequality. Small and medium enterprises play an important role in addressing these challenges. The Department of Small Business Development is encouraged by the focus that our sister Department of Tourism is making in the development of SMEs in the sector,” said Zulu.

Xasa is set to host similar meetings with other departments to forge partnerships and collaboration that will help realise the goals set out in the NDP.

“Tourism as a priority sector has the ability to contribute to economic growth by providing employment opportunities, and a conducive and sustainable environment for Small and Medium Enterprises to thrive,” said Xasa.
