ROMAFRICA FILM FESTIVAL 13 - 17 LUGLIO 2016 CASA DEL CINEMA - VILLA BORGHESE

The Romafrica Film Festival created by Mr Antonio Flamini,  Mr Cleophas Adrien Dioma and Mr Domenico Petrolo aims at showing Africa beyond clichés with  cinema as the ideal tool used for promoting the multi-faceted and vibrant culture of the fascinating continent that is Africa. Taking place in one of Rome’s gems, the Casa del Cinema situated at Villa Borghese, the Festival has the collaborative support from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.   The 2nd edition of the Romafrica Film Festival saw the participation of two South African feature films Ayanda under the direction of Ms Sara Blecher and Tell  Me Sweet Something  under the direction of Akin Omotoso both produced in 2015 and two animated short films,  Burgeon and Jungle Beat-There’s No Place Like Home,  the works of  students from the well-known animated cartoon School of Cape Town.

The opening of the Film Festival on 13 July 2016 saw the presence of South African Ms Nomzamo Mbatha, the lead actress of Tell Me Sweet Something, Ms  Terri Pheto, producer of Ayanda,   Mr Matthew Brown, producer of the animated short film Jungle Beat - There’s No Place like Home and  Mr Wilhelm Guldenpfennig, Director of  the animated short film titled Burgeon.   The South African Embassy was represented by the Minister Plenipotentiary, Dr Sheldon Moulton and Counsellor Political Ms Mpho Ndimande as well as many other Embassy staff members who gave the South African film representatives support during the screening of their work in Rome.

The South African Embassy was accorded an opportunity by the RomAfrica Film Festival organisers, to showcase and promote South African wine and tourism information.  The invited guests and the public showed great interest in the tourism information that was distributed about South Africa and its great wine.
