THE SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY IN ROME TO HOST A CONFERENCE ON FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC MATTERS ON 28 NOVEMBER 2017.

On Tuesday, 28 November 2017, the South African Embassy in Rome will host a high-level Conference on Financial and Economic Matters at the headquarters of the Italian Banking Association in Rome.

This will be the first bilateral initiative of this nature where leaders from the Ministries of Finance, top bankers and economic actors from Italy and South Africa will gather to discuss recent developments in their respective financial and economic sectors as well as possible areas of collaboration. 

The Conference is expected to provide a platform for robust and open discussions on pertinent matters in the aforesaid sectors. Topics for discussion will focus on, inter alia, improving the integrity, productivity and efficiency of the banking sector; preventing and combating financial crimes; investment and financing of public sector projects as well as public-private partnerships. 

Invited high-level speakers are: 

§  Counsellor for Fiscal Policy for the Italian Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr Vieri Ceriani,

§  Deputy Minister of Finance of South Africa, Mr Sfiso Buthelezi,

§  Governor of Banca d’Italia, Mr Ignazio Visco,

§  Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, Mr Lesetja Kganyago,

§  Director-General of Associazione Bancaria Italiana, Mr Giovanni Sabatini,

§  Managing Director of the Banking Association of South Africa, Mr Cassim Coovadia,

§  Chief Executive Officer of the Industrial Development Corporation, Mr Geoffrey Qhena, and

§  Senior representatives of FirstRand Group, Investec Asset Management and Standard Bank.

Participation by invited Italian Think Tanks and representatives of some Universities in Rome will further enhance the outcomes of the Conference. In addition, students in relevant faculties will be afforded a rare and unique opportunity to engage speakers on recent financial and economic developments in Italy and South Africa. 

 

The Conference will be preceded by a closed workshop which aims to provide a platform for open and frank discussions between high-level speakers and participants.
