THE AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA IN ITALY, SHIRISH M. SONI AT THE PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK BY LUCA LUCHE

On Saturday, 8 September  at 17.30 at Palazzo Vitelli to Sant'Egidio   the Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa in Italy, Albania and San Marino, Shirish M.Soni and the Third Secretary, Political Section, of the South African Embassy, Jeanette Mphephu, will participate, , at the presentation of the book by Luca Luchetti (published by Nuova Prhomos), "Dear mother, we are like leaves on the tree", together with the Mayor, Luciano Bacchetta and the President of the “Cassa di Risparmio” Foundation of Città di Castello, Fabio Nisi. Daniela Bartolini, journalist and collaborator of the National Archive of Diarist Foundation, will also speak at the public meeting, which registers the high patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Italy, the tertiary municipality and the Cassa di Risparmio di Città di Castello Foundation. Journalist, Simone Santi (coordinator) together with institutional representatives, scholars and history experts.

  "I decided to publish this book following the random discovery of some letters written by my grandfather, Valerio Luchetti, during his years of imprisonment in South Africa and in England between 1941 and 1946 and sent to his mother Eleonora who lived in Città di Castello”. In those letters I found impressed as well as the personal story of my grandfather, also that of other young persons who were not present in any history book. " This is what was stated by the author of the publication, Luca Luchetti who also announces the will of the family to donate the proceeds of the sale of the book to the Association, Zonderwater Block, founded by former Italian prisoners in South Africa, which deals with the management of the museum that was created by the same association, exactly in the place where the prison camp of Zonderwater in South Africa and where Valerio Luchetti was a prisoner and to the "Venanzio Gabriotti" Institute for the History of Social Politics, given its purpose of promoting the preservation of historical memory and the values of freedom and democracy, to support the sponsoring of a scholarship.

Luca Luchetti (Città di Castello 1981), is a lawyer and research doctor in "Comparative private law and EU private law". After graduating from LUISS Guido Carli University, he started his professional career in Rome. Over the years he has always cultivated a passion for historical research and writing, following the casual discovery of some of his grandfather’s letters,  Valerio,  sent off during his years of captivity in South Africa and England, he decided to write a story, a : the story within  a story in history
