OFFICIAL VISIT TO ITALY BY DELEGATION FROM THE

WESTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE

Ms Beverley Ann Schäfer, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Economic Opportunities, Tourism &

Agriculture, of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature, paid a successful visit to Rome from 9 to 10 July

2018. The South African Embassy coordinated her programme of official appointments. During the visit, Ms

Schäfer met with representatives of the National Agency for Agricultural Mechanization, a representative

from Veronafiere responsible for organising international wine events in Italy and Councillors from the Lazio

region, to strengthen relations as well as to discuss the possibility of collaboration between the Lazio Re-

gion and the Western Cape. Ms Schäfer also visited the Centro Agroalimentare Roma (Agro-food Centre

Rome). The Centro is a large logistical platform that works with fresh produce markets and is technological-

ly advanced with regard to production, trade, distribution, export, logistics and services. Ms Schäfer took a

tour of the premises and was pleased to see several South African products displayed on shelves. Here’s to

increasing the fresh produce from South Africa that is distributed by the Centro!
