         The Embassy helped to facilitate participation by South Africa in the Malta fashion show organised by the


         Chamber of Fashion in Malta, in the context of the commemoration of the Nelson Mandela Centenary and

         on the margins of the Grand Gala of Fashion. The event “International Evening of Culture through fashion”


         was  held  under  the  patronage  of  the  President  of  Malta,  Ms  Marie-Louise  Colerio  Preca,  at  the  historic

         Verdala Palace, on 19 July 2018.


         Mr Danny Moodliyar showcased more than 20 garments from South African Designers during the event,

         namely Sibu Msimang, Brenda Quin, Karla Lortan and Katherine Montague under the theme "And out of the

         Ashes will the Phoenix Rise", drawing linkages from South Africa’transition to, and growth of, democracy. Mr


         Moodliyar is known for two brands, Danny Absolute, which is promoted nationally and One Africa, a label

         used internationally.


         South Africa’s widely respected Honorary Consul in Malta, Mr Ivan Mifsud, was instrumental in securing the

         high-profile opportunity for South Africa to participate in this prestigious international fashion event.
