SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY IN ROME: NEWSLETTER
THE SOUTH AFRICA-ITALY SUMMIT - FIFTH EDITION -
JOHANNESBURG 23-24 October 2018
th
The 5 edition of the South Africa-Italy Summit, which is organised by the European House - Ambrosetti,
will be taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 23 to 24 October 2018, at the Maslow Hotel. In
this regard, please refer to the accompanying “Save the Date” brochure.
The South Africa-Italy Summit complements very nicely what Government is doing to strengthen the econ-
omy. Indeed, President Cyril Ramaphosa has chosen economic growth as the focal point for Government
action. For example, Energy Minister Jeff Radebe recently signed agreements for 27 renewable energy In-
dependent Power Producer Projects, including the power purchase agreements with Eskom, the national
power utility. The signing of these agreements has reaffirmed South Africa’s position as an energy invest-
ment destination of choice. President Ramaphosa has also decided to host his own Investment Confer-
ence, also during October this year, with the date still to be finalised, to which he will invite major trade
partners, key investors and Heads of State from all over the world. The Conference aims to attract USD
100 billion in investments over 5 years.
The South Africa-Italy Summit that is being organised by the European House – Ambrosetti is an important
opportunity for dialogue and discussions on themes of common interest between Southern African and Eu-
ropean business leaders, fostering strengthened business relations and opportunities, for mutual benefit.
The Sessions will focus on the following: Please find below Save the Date for the
