The Honorary Consul of Naples, Mr. Gianluigi d’Aragona, in collaboration with the Municipality of Naples,

hosted a conference in commemoration of the Nelson Mandela Centenary on 18 July 2018. Ambassador

Shirish M. Soni delivered a public lecture in honour of Nelson Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu. The con-

ference was held at the headquarters of Europe Direct Naples. Other speakers included the Mayor of Na-

ples, Mr Luigi de Magistris, Prof. Antonio Pezzano of L'Orientale University, by Dr. Sara de Simone of

CeSAC de L'Orientale and finally Dr. Giulio Riccio of Less Onlus. The event was well attended.

During his visit to Naples, Ambassador Soni’s programme included meetings with Professor Arturo De Vivo,

Deputy Dean of Federico II University of Naples, and with the Management of Il Tari’ Jewellery School. The

Ambassador also met with a representative of the Board of ZAITA (Association for the development and co-

operation between South Africa and Italy), as well as the performing artists “MA.MA”, which put on a tribute

to Miriam Makeba and Nelson Mandela.

dela photo exhibition on 4 July 2018. Ambassador

Shirish M. Soni and the Mayor of Parlemo, Sicily, Mr

Leoluca Orlando, officially opened the exhibition. The

event was attended by representatives of local authori-

ties, the private sector, the media and academia.
