jailed by the apartheid regime, before the fall of apartheid. In fact, three former prisoners on
Robben Island have gone on to become President of South Africa. In order, they are Nelson
Mandela, Kgalema Motlanthe, and the current President, Jacob Zuma.
Explore the island with guides who are former prisoners of the Island sharing their personal ex-
periences. You can also visit Nelson Mandela's small, cramped cell, where he spent so many
years of his life in jail.

                               Table Mountain

Table Mountain flanked by Devil's Peak to the East and by Li-
on's Head to the West, forms wonderful, majestic backdrop to
the City of Cape Town. It is world-famous for its unique, flat-
topped shape which attracts many tourists. The flat top of the
mountain is often covered by thin clouds, which are formed
when a south-easterly wind is forced up the Mountain's slopes

into the colder air above, causing the moisture to condense and
form the so-called "table cloth" of cloud. The mountain forms part
of the Table Mountain National Park. Take a hike on foot up the
side of the Mountain - a number of trails of varying difficulty are
available - and enjoy the unique and unusually rich biodiversity.
The vegetation consists predominantly of several different types
of the Cape Fynbos that are unique to the area. Unfortunately,
much of the vegetation type is endangered flora. The Mountain is also home to a wide variety of
fauna, including the Table Mountain Ghost Frog, a very rare endemic species of amphibian that
is only found on Table Mountain. Alternatively, take a thrilling cable car ride to the top of the
Mountain and appreciate the spectacular views. Once at the top of the Mountain, you will find
an extensive network of well-marked out footpaths providing hiking trails covering varying dis-
tances over a wide variety of terrains. A must for the adventurous!
