Visit by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbi-
tration
Mr Luvuyo Bono, the Chairperson of the Essential Services Committee (ESC) of the Concilia-
tion, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) led a delegation of members of the Committee to Italy.
The objective of the visit was to engage with Italian counterparts on the management in Italy of
the right to strike in essential public services. During their meetings with relevant labour authori-
ties and trade unions, the delegation exchanged views and experiences on legislative and regu-
latory frameworks in South Africa and Italy and gained valuable insight the management of es-
sential services in Italy, for both the Public and the Private Sectors, including what measures rel-
evant institutions which provide essential services are able to implement in the event of unpro-
tected strikes, as well as how legitimate strikes
are guaranteed.
