AMBASCIATA DEL SUDAFRICA A ROMA: NOTIZIARIO
Note from the Ambassador
Dear Readers,
Another quarter is behind us. We held many projects in this term and continue to con-
gratulate Embassy personnel for their consistent hard work. We celebrated Freedom
Ambassador Day in three parts: 1) Economic Seminar focused on Operation Phakisa – the Blue
Ms. Nomatemba Tambo Economy and 2) participated at Vinòforum food and wine festival. We also had a few
South African athletes in Rome participating in qualifying games for the Rio Olympics who have done very
well. The South African Sevens Rugby Academy and the Women’s Rugby won the Roma7 converted cup –
the 4th time for the men and 2nd for the women. Wayde van Niekerk won the 400m sprint at the Diamond
League held in Rome. South Africa won Gold at the World Rowing Cup held in Italy. South Africa was nomi-
nated Country of the Year by Rai’s Cartoons on the Bay Festival, held in Venice. The country was repre-
sented by the following studios: Sunrise Production, Triggerfish Animation, Tulips and Chimney and Flying
Circus Johannesburg, Africa’s Best Channel and the Cape Town International Animation Festival; in collabo-
ration with the Embassy. With the moral patronage of the Embassy, the Centro di Sarro Gallery in partner-
ship with the Everard Read Gallery Cape Town commenced their Art Residency Project 2016/2017. The
Venice Biennale – focused on Architecture is running with a South Africa. These are just some of the items
the Embassy has kept itself busy with for the first quarter; looking forward to an exciting 2nd quarter. Thank
you to our stakeholders for their continued support and hope to strengthen our relations going forward.

Un altro trimestre è alle nostre spalle. Abbiamo realizzato molti progetti, grazie anche all’ottimo lavoro svolto
dal personale dell'ambasciata. Riguardo alla nostra festa nazionale (Freedom Day), due i momenti salientii:
1) un seminario economico sull’operazione Phakisa - Blue Economy e 2) la partecipazione a Vinòforum, fe-
sta del buon cibo e del buon vino. Inoltre a Roma alcuni atleti sudafricani si sono particolarmente distinti
nella gare di qualificazione per le Olimpiadi di Rio. Due squadre di rugby, la Rugby Sevens Academy e le lo-
ro colleghe della Women’s Sevens, hanno vinto la coppa nelle rispettive categorie, quarta volta per gli uomi-
ni e seconda per le donne. Wayde van Niekerk ha vinto i 400m della Diamond League a Roma, mentre il
Sudafrica ha vinto l'oro ai Mondiali di canottaggio a Varese. Il Sudafrica è stato nominato “Paese dell’anno”
dal festival Rai “Cartoons on the Bay”, svoltosi a Venezia. Il paese era rappresentato da: Sunrise Produc-
tion, Triggerfish Animation, Tulips and Chimney, Flying Circus, Africa’s Best Channel e Cape Town Interna-
tional Animation Festival; in collaborazione con l’Ambasciata. Con il patrocinio dell'Ambasciata, il Centro
Luigi Di Sarro di Roma e la Everard Read Gallery di Città del Capo hanno avviato un Art Residency Project
per il biennio 2016-16. Il Sudafrica partecipa con un padiglione anche alla Biennale di Venezia, dedicata
all’architettura. Queste sono solo alcune delle iniziative promosse dall'Ambasciata per i primi tre mesi
dell’anno, in attesa di un secondo trimestre altrettanto entusiasmante. Grazie a tutti gli interessati, che ci
hanno sostenuto con il loro costante contributo e con la speranza di rafforzare ulteriormente le nostre rela-
zioni anche per il futuro.
