Gariep Dam Nature Reserve

This stunning dam is located on the

Orange River in a gorge at the en-
trance to the Ruigte Valle. Enjoy the

beauty of this huge dam, the largest

in South Africa, covering 36 487 hec-

tares. The views around sunset are

spectacular, to say the very least. At

the dam, visitors can participate in

different sporting activities such as

angling, canoeing, boating and skiing. If you have time on your hands and don’t want to be rushed,

you may wish to recharge your batteries and spend a relaxing weekend in this quiet part of the world.

Jagersfontein Big Hole Open Mine

This amazing big hole is located in a small town called
Jagersfontein, where the first diamond was discov-
ered in this area. It is the World's oldest diamond mine

of its kind and the world's biggest hand excavated pit.
The top surface of the hole is 19,65 hectares. The

depth of the hand-dug hole is 275 metres. A unique
