20th Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeo-
logical Tourism, Paestum: Salerno – 26-29
October 2017
The Embassy participated in the 20th Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism Event held in
Paestum, Salerno from 26-29 October 2017. South African tourist destinations were showcased and tour-
ism promotion materials distributed. Visitors and tour operators indicated that they were particularly inter-
ested in visiting South Africa. The event was also graced by students who are doing tourism courses at dif-
ferent universities. The event was well attended and provided the Mission with an opportunity to promote
South Africa, as well as to meet with interlocutors and representatives of international organizations such
as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations
World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and
Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM).
