        South Africa and Italy further strengthen economic
       relations through the successful Ambrosetti Summit

                                                          This year, the European House of Ambrosetti, for the 1st time
                                                          held its 3rd South Africa-Italy Summit, in the City of Gold: Egoli
(Johannesburg), under the theme “Building a Community of Leaders for Growing their Enterprises in the
Two Countries and Continents”. The Summit was graced by the presence of over 250 participants, including
Government and Business leaders from Italy, South Africa, their respective neighbours as well as various
African and European regional organisations.

Among the main outcomes of this year’s Summit was the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding
(MoU), namely:

 The MoU for cooperation in water management, signed by the South African Minister of Water and San-
     itation, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane, and the Italian Deputy Minister of Environment, Land and Sea, Ms
     Barbara Degani;

 The MoU for cooperation in economic, social and technological matters, signed by Premier David Ma-
     khura of Gauteng Province and the President of Emilia-Romagna Region, Mr Stefano Bonaccini; and

 The MoU of cooperation between the city of Reggio Emilia and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality
     signed by Mayor Luca Vechhi and Executive Mayor Mzwandile Masina.

   South African Embassy engages the Sicilian Business community

On 1 October 2016, in the context of the hugely successful South African food, wine and cultural festival,
the South African Embassy hosted a seminar themed “Trade and Investment Opportunities in the Blue
Economy Sector in South Africa” in Taormina, Sicily. We were so honoured that over 80 influential business
leaders from the region and regional leaders attended the Summit.

Keynote speakers included representatives of regional and City authorities i.e., the Municipality of Taormi-
na, interventions by Prof Beniamino Quintieri, the President of the Italian Export Credit Agency (SACE),
Hon Adolfo Urso, President of Italy World Services and Farefuturo Foundation and Mr Raimondo Moncada,
General Manager of Moncada Energy Group.

Mr Moncada summarised the purpose of the seminar aptly by stating that “Today we talked about how Ital-
