KENTRIDGE EXHIBITION WOWS ROME FROM MONUMENTAL MURAL ALONG
THE TIBER TO THE MACRO
Rome, April 18 - The masterpieces presented at the Venice Biennale as well as the rough drafts for
'Triumphs and Laments', thought up in Johannesburg and Rome, have been brought together for the first
time in an exhibition that will run through October 2 in the Macro Museum in the Italian capital. The exhibi-
tion is dedicated to the genius of William Kentridge, creator of a monumental mural along the walls flanking
the Tiber River from Ponte Sisto to Ponte Mazzini, which was inaugurated on April 21-22. In speaking to the
press, the South African artist said that the truly arduous task had been "that of getting permissions". The
multidisciplinary, non-profit project took a year to complete, while the Macro exhibition is "a summary of the
entire project and a work unto itself", Kentridge said.

Roma, 18 aprile. I capolavori presentati alla Biennale di Venezia, ma soprattutto i bozzetti preparatori di
'Triumphs and Laments', ideati a Johannesburg e a Roma, sono stati riuniti per la prima volta in una mostra
che resterà aperta fino al 2 ottobre al Macro Museum della capitale italiana. La mostra è dedicata al genio
di William Kentridge, autore del monumentale murale realizzato sui muraglioni del Lungotevere, da Ponte
Sisto a Ponte Mazzini, che è stato inaugurato il 21 e 22 aprile. Parlando alla stampa, l’artista sudafricano
ha detto che il compito veramente arduo è stato “quello di ottenere i permessi''. Questa opera multidiscipli-
nare e senza scopo di lucro, ha aggiunto, ha richiesto un anno di lavoro, mentre la mostra del Macro è un
''compendio dell’intero progetto e un’opera a se stante”.
